West Indies registered their first win of the ongoing WTC cycle, beating Sri Lanka by an innings and 217 runs. Here are the updated World Test Championship standings after the result.

Amir Jangoo’s stunning double century, Roston Chase’s 194 and Kemar Roach’s second-innings four-fer, which took him to 300 Test wickets, helped the home side in North Sound win the first of the two-match series. This was the West Indies' first victory after going winless in eight Tests since beating Pakistan in January last year.

Riding on Jangoo and Chase’s mammoth 401-run stand, West Indies took a huge lead of 318 runs in the first innings. Sri Lanka lost opener Pathum Nissanka at the fag end of day three, and needed to put up a fight to have any chance of making the hosts bat again.

But the visitors collapsed dramatically and were bundled out for 101 runs in just 27.2 overs of play on the fourth day. Roach picked up four wickets while Jayden Seales also accounted for three scalps. For Sri Lanka, only Dinesh Chandimal (43) and Sonal Dinusha (12*) reached double-figures, while four of their batters were dismissed for a duck.

This was West Indies’ biggest innings win over Sri Lanka, and their first win by an innings in a home Test since 2018 against Bangladesh.
