Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland have withdrawn from the upcoming Women’s Premier League that begins on January 9.

Ellyse Perry, Annabel Sutherland withdraws WPL

Perry, who represents Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Sutherland, who plays for Delhi Capitals, have withdrawn from the fourth edition of the WPL due to personal reasons. The news was confirmed today in a statement: “Australian all-rounders Ellyse Perry (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Annabel Sutherland (Delhi Capitals) have withdrawn from the upcoming edition of the league due to personal reasons. RCB have named Sayali Satghare as a replacement for Perry.

Satghare will join RCB at her reserve price of INR 30 lakh. DC have named Alana King as a replacement for Sutherland.”

Perry is the second-leading run-scorer in the history of the WPL, with 972 runs at an average of 64.80, with eight fifties. She played a massive role for the franchise in their title-winning run in 2024, making 347 runs - the most in the edition - at an average of 69.40. She also picked up 6-15 against the Mumbai Indians to guide the team into the playoffs.

Sutherland, on the other hand, has played for two teams - Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals. Last year, she picked up nine wickets and scored 95 runs in nine games.

The 24-year-old has played 45 T20Is for Australia, picking up 40 wickets at 19.20 with an economy rate of 6.44. Perry, an Australian great, has scored 2,173 runs from 168 T20Is and has picked up 126 wickets at 18.92.

RCB, DC announce replacements

Satghare has played just six T20s in her career, scoring 38 runs and picking up three wickets. She made her WPL debut for the Gujarat Giants in 2024, playing one game. She has also played two T20s against Australia A in 2024. A seam all-rounder, Satghare has also played three ODIs this year.

King, one of the world’s premier leg-spinners in women’s cricket, has played just one match in the WPL, for UP Warriorz in 2025. She had gone unsold in the first two seasons of the tournament, and also failed to attract any bidders in last month’s mega auction.

The upcoming tournament will be played across two venues: Mumbai and Vadodara, with the final scheduled for February 5.
