One day after Sophie Devine smashed 32 runs off one over in the WPL, Grace Harris equalled her record in an onslaught against Deandra Dottin.
Harris powers RCB to second consecutive win
Having limited UP Warriorz to 143-5, Harris started the chase with a boundary off her first ball from Deepti Sharma. She took nine runs off the opening over of the innings, before accelerating towards the end of the powerplay. Four boundaries came off her bat during Kranti Gaud's second over, and RCB were on 46-0 by the end of the penultimate over of the powerplay.
It was off the final over of the powerplay that Harris really cut loose. Deandra Dottin was thrown the ball and Harris sensed an opportunity against the medium pace. Dottin started with a slot-ball which Harris carved for four over mid off. The ball was also called a no-ball by the third umpire to make it five runs to the total off the first ball of the over. The next ball disappeared for Harris's first six of her innings, a slow full-toss pummelled over deep mid-wicket.
A four was next up through extra-cover before back-to-back sixes took Harris to a 22-ball half-century. Dottin served up a wide for her fifth ball and had to bowl the delivery again, which was met with a four hit through square leg. With one legal delivery left to bowl, Harris squared up again but could only turn a full ball into leg for a dot. That gave her 32 runs off the over, the joint-most runs scored off an over in WPL history.
Dottin's day got worse when she dropped a steepling catch off Harris later in the innings, but by then the damage was done. RCB chased down the target easily, winning the match by nine wickets with almost eight overs to spare. Harris was eventually out for 85 off 40 balls, while Smriti Mandhana finished unbeaten on 47 off 32.
Harris emulates Devine 24-hours after record over
In yesterday's WPL match between Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals, Sophie Devine set the record Harris equalled today. She hit Sneh Rana for 32 runs in the fifth over of the innings, including four consecutive sixes. Devine also reached her half-century during the over, and in another similarity to Harris, was also dismissed in the 11th over of the innings short of a maiden WPL century.
The previous record for the most expensive over in WPL history belonged to Deepti Sharma's 28 runs conceded against RCB last season.
