Ryan Rickelton

Playing in his debut IPL season, Rickelton had a fruitful association with the Mumbai Indians, scoring the third-most runs for them (388 runs at 30, five 30+ scores). Soon after, he featured in the tour game against the Zimbabweans, scoring a solid 62* before he retired out. It’s worth remembering he hit 259 in his most recent Test.

Aiden Markram

The other confirmed opener, Markram also comes on the back of a solid IPL 2025, where he hit 445 at 34, including five fifties. He fell for a 15-ball 13 when most of the top six found some form against the Zimbabweans. He last hit a Test hundred in the 2024 New Year’s Test, so a big one is certainly due.

Tony de Zorzi

His spot in the XI is uncertain, but de Zorzi batted at No.6 against the Zimbabweans, scoring 28 off 51 before he retired out. Before that, he opened for Western Province in the CSA 4-Day Series Division 1, hitting 141 & 8 in his last game there. In six innings, he averaged 56.

Tristan Stubbs

Stubbs also played against the Zimbabweans, appearing at five and scoring a sedate 58 off 120 before retiring. This came after his season with Delhi Capitals, where he hit 300 runs at 50, coming in late for crucial cameos. In his last Test (New Year's), he batted at four, and fell for a six-ball duck.

Temba Bavuma

Bavuma hasn’t played a lot recently: aside from the tour game against the Zimbabweans, where he hit 58*, he didn’t play anything across April and May. Since his New Year’s century against Pakistan, he’s enjoyed a string of notable scores, including back-to-back fifties in the Champions Trophy.

David Bedingham

Bedingham batted at No.7 against the Zimbabweans, scoring a quick 23 (28), soon after appearing for Durham in the County Championship. It was his second game in the season for them, having suffered a broken toe in the middle, managing 17 & 8. In the CSA 4-Day competition that preceded, he averaged 50.60 with two fifties in six innings.

Wiaan Mulder

Mulder, too, hasn’t played a lot recently. Before featuring against the Zimbabweans, where he hit 26 at No.3 (and did not bowl), he played a solitary IPL game as a replacement player. In the Champions Trophy, he was South Africa’s leading wicket-taker.

Kyle Verreynne

He had little role to play in the game against the Zimbabweans, but consistently played for Nottinghamshire across April and May. After his century from No.6 in the first game, he didn’t cross fifty in his next nine innings, despite managing starts. He did take six catches in one Yorkshire innings late last month.

Marco Jansen

He couldn’t feature in the playoffs, but Jansen played his part in Punjab Kings’ run to the IPL final, taking the second-most wickets for them (16 wickets at 27). Against the Zimbabweans, he came in at No.9 and finished with 4-2-13-0 in a brief spell with the new ball.

Keshav Maharaj

He hasn’t played much in the last few months, and sent down just one over against the Zimbabweans. His last game before that was in March, a one-off four-day appearance, where he took one wicket in 27 overs. In two One-Day Challenge matches, he took five wickets at 14.6. In the New Year’s Test, he had figures of 8-2-14-2.

Kagiso Rabada

Rabada didn’t play across April due to his drugs ban, but returned to feature in the IPL, proving to be slightly on the expensive side. He blew hot and cold during the Champions Trophy, and more recently, took the new ball against the Zimbabweans, taking 1-18 from four.

Corbin Bosch

It’s been an eventful few months for Bosch, signing up in the PSL before leaving it for the IPL, which earned him a one-year PSL ban. He played three IPL games, batting at eight for a couple of cameos, bowling a couple of spells too (1-26, 0-29). He had no role to play in the tour game against the Zimbabweans.

Lungi Ngidi

Ngidi played just two IPL games, taking 3-30 in one and 1-51 in the other. Before that, his Champions Trophy was decent too, taking six wickets in three games. Against the Zimbabweans, he came first-change and briefly bowled.

Dane Paterson

Paterson played five games for Middlesex across April and May, taking 11 wickets at 44. Before that, he also featured in a couple of CSA four-day games, picking up four wickets across as many innings.

Senuran Muthusamy

He did not play any role in the tour game against the Zimbabweans, his first game since April. Back then, leading the Warriors in the CSA four-day games, he hit a century from No.6, after his side was reduced to 80-5. He followed it with a seven wicket match-haul to set up a win for them.
