Duan Jansen, the twin brother of South Africa all-rounder Marco, produced an all-round performance in Titans’ CSA One-Day Cup win over Western Province.
Duan Jansen takes 3-45 against Western Province
Jansen struck in just the second over of the game after Western Province were put into bat first at Centurion, having captain Daniel Smith caught with just nine runs on the board. Right-arm pacer Dayyaan Galiem removed Smith’s opening partner, Valentine Kitime, in the next over to reduce Western Province to 20-2.
David Bedingham and Kyle Verreynne rescued the innings, adding 56 runs for the third wicket before the former fell to Junior Dala. Verreynne followed just four deliveries later, putting further pressure on the batters to follow. Western Province were pegged back further, going down to 94-6 in 20.2 overs, with crossing the 200-run mark looking a bleak possibility only.
But No.7 Oliver Whitehead held one end, scoring a 67-ball 55 batting with the lower order, and was the ninth wicket to fall with his side having breached the 200 mark. He became Jansen's second wicket of the day, and the left-armer finished the innings by dismissing Mthiwekhaya Nabe to take figures of 3-45 in 8.3 overs. Western Province eventually finished with 220.
Jansen's 45* takes Titans over the line
Titans were seemingly cruising in the chase despite losing Lhuan-dre Pretorius in the fifth over. At 110-2 in the 23rd over, the chase seemed straightforward, but left-arm spinner Kyle Simmonds flipped the game on its head. He accounted for the next four wickets, first dismissing Lesego Senokwane before trapping Neil Brand leg before in the same over.
Keagan Lion-Cachet and Galiem were the next two to fall, both to Simmonds, with Titans now 140-6 in the 31st over. They soon went down to 149-7 in 33.2 overs when Jansen joined Keegan Petersen in the middle, who had already completed his fifty but was running out of partners. The duo added 28 crucial runs for the eighth wicket when Petersen fell, leaving the team with 43 more to get in just under nine overs.

Jansen took it upon himself to do the bulk of the scoring, eventually finishing on 45 not out off 51 to take the team through with a career-best List A knock, which featured six fours. Junior Dala remained unbeaten on 12 off 16 as Titans won with two wickets and two overs to spare. They are third on the CSA One-Day Cup table for the ongoing season with two wins in three games so far. Western Province are now at the bottom with three defeats.
