Keshav Maharaj tops new ODI bowling rankings update
The veteran South Africa spinner took his maiden ODI five-for in the Proteas' win over Australia yesterday. He ran through Australia's batting lineup, getting Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Alex Carey and Aaron Hardie, all bowled or lbw. As a result, he has surged to the top of the ICC ODI bowling rankings, gaining two positions to retake the top spot for the first time since 2023.
Subrayen reported for suspect action
Another South Africa spinner, Prenelan Subrayen, has had a less positive day. He was reported for a suspect bowling action during the first ODI in Australia, in which he took 1-46 making his debut in the format. Subrayen must now undergo an independent ICC assessment of his bowling action with the next 14 days. The spinner was previously placed under rehabilitation by South Africa in 2012 after two separate tests deemed his action illegal. He was cleared to bowl again in January 2013.
Zampa reprimand for 'audible obscenity'
Adam Zampa has been reprimanded by the ICC for the 'use of an audible obscenity' during the ODI in Cairns yesterday, and has had one demerit point added to his record. Zampa was heard on the stump mic using bad language after an overthrow was conceded off his bowling in the 37th over. It's Zampa's first breach of the ICC Code of Conduct in the last 24 months.
West Indies current and former captains complete unique CPL record
Playing in yesterday's CPL clash, Jason Holder and Rovman Powell completed a first with their all-round feats. Both scored over 60 runs in the match, and both took one wicket, the only time two players have both achieved both of those feats in the same CPL game.
Henry and Jonassen star with the ball for Welsh Fire men and women
Overseas signings Matt Henry and Jess Jonassen both put in impressive performances in the two side's games against Southern Brave. Jonassen took 4-10 in Fire Women's loss before Henry returned 2-5 off 20 balls, including 16 dots, in the corresponding men's fixture.
