Derbyshire have signed Pakistan spinner Sufiyan Moqim for the first half 2026 Vitality Blast season, announcing the signing a week after securing the services of Shoaib Bashir.
The left-arm spinner joins Derbyshire Falcons for the first six games of this summer's T20 Blast, scheduled to start on May 22. Moqim will be available for the games against Durham, Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Essex and Nottinghamshire (twice).
Moqim has previously played under Mickey Arthur, Derbyshire’s Head of Cricket, in the Bangladesh Premier League with the Rangpur Riders. The spinner featured in three games of the 2026 BPL season and was the most economical bowler of the tournament with an economy rate of 4.33. He also picked up three wickets.
Moqim joins Bashir at Derbyshire, with the England off-spinner having signed a two-year deal for the Division Two county earlier this year. He was released by Somerset at the end of the last season, having not been able to get regular first XI opportunities at the club.
Moqim has played international cricket in both white-ball formats for Pakistan. He made his T20I debut in 2023 and has since played 19 games in the format, picking up 27 wickets at 14.74 each and at an economy of 6.28.
His last T20I game for Pakistan, however, came at the Asia Cup in September last year, and he has been left out of their squad to face Australia next month in a T20I series ahead of the T20 World Cup. Moqim also has eight wickets in four ODIs, which came between December 2024 and August 2025.
Wiaan Mulder signs multi-format deal with Essex
Meanwhile, South Africa all-rounder Wiaan Mulder has joined Essex for six County Championship and Vitality Blast matches each from April to June. He will first feature in six red-ball games for the club between April 3 and May 15 before playing as many white-ball games from May 22 to June 9.
Mulder, who has the fifth-highest Test score in history to his name - scoring 367* against Zimbabwe last year - has previously represented Kent and Leicestershire in county cricket.
