Former India all-rounder Rishi Dhawan is currently playing for the Grand Cayman Falcons in the Max60, a 10-over competition in the Caribbean.

Dhawan, who played four international games for India in 2016, is one of several Indians in the Max60. The all-rounder represented the country in three ODIs, making 12 runs and taking one wicket, and also played one T20I against Zimbabwe, where he also claimed a single scalp. A consistent performer in domestic cricket, Dhawan has scored 4,925 first-class runs at 41.73, along with taking 355 wickets. In List A, he picked 186 wickets and scored 2,906 runs, while he has 1,740 T20 runs and 118 wickets in the format.

He has also played 39 IPL games, representing Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians over 12 seasons.

How is Rishi Dhawan playing in the Max60?

Dhawan remains an active player for Himachal Pradesh, having last represented the team last season in all three competitions: the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. With India male cricketers not allowed to participate in overseas T20 leagues, how was Dhawan allowed to be available for the Max60?

The 34-year-old had announced his retirement with a “heavy heart” from Indian limited-overs cricket after the Vijay Hazare Trophy this year, saying that he had no regrets. "It's with a heavy heart, even though I have no regrets, that I'd like to announce my retirement from Indian cricket (Limited over). It's a sport that has defined my life for the past 20 years. This game has given me immeasurable joy and countless memories that would always stay very close to my heart.”

The latest BCCI policy is that players who announce their retirement from international and IPL cricket are allowed to play overseas T20 leagues. As Dhawan is no longer an active white-ball player in domestic cricket, he is eligible to take part in foreign leagues. Ankit Rajpoot, who retired from Indian cricket last December, is also taking part in the Max60.
