Marnus Labuschagne continued his golden run in Australia's One-Day Cup, hitting a fourth hundred in six games this season for Queensland.
The Australia batter walked in at No.3 for Queensland in their last One-Day Cup league match, against South Australia at the Gabba on Saturday (February 21), and scored a sixth List-A hundred to help his side post a strong 260. Mitchell Swepson then picked up a career-best 7/28 with the ball to take them to a 125-run win.
Marnus Labuschagne scores fourth One-Day Cup century of the season
Captaining Queensland, Labuschagne was required in just the third over after the fall of opener Sam Heazlett. Hugo Burdon followed his opening partner soon and they were reduced to 41-3 by the end of the 11th over. But Labuschagne held one end, constructing two crucial partnerships worth 92 and 81 runs, respectively, with Lachlan Hearne and Hugh Weibgen.
Hearne, notably, didn’t hit a boundary during his 62-ball 41, while Labuschagne completed a 122-ball 100. He fell in the 47th over for a 136-ball 126, becoming Lloyd Pope’s third victim of the game. Swepson then picked up seven wickets to bowl out South Australia for 135, with Mackenzie Harvey (72) and Alex Carey (36) the only two to score in double digits.
The win, with a bonus point, propelled Queensland to second in the One-Day Cup table, and they are awaiting the result of the game between New South Wales and Tasmania to see if they will qualify for this season’s final.
The 126 against SA was Labuschagne’s fourth hundred of the ongoing season of the List-A competition. He started the campaign with a 130 against Victoria, followed by a 2 against Western Australia, before roaring back to form with twin hundreds against Tasmania and New South Wales. A rare failure followed in a defeat to Victoria, but Labuschagne made up for it against SA post the restart.
He is now the top-scorer of the 2025/26 One-Day Cup season, with 468 runs in six innings at 78.
