Prasidh Krishna retires hurt after bouncer blow

In the second unofficial 'Test' between India A and Australia A at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Krishna came out to bat at No.9 with the home side 127-7 in their first innings, having just lost all-rounder Manav Suthar.

Krishna gave No.3 B Sai Sudharsan some company, making his way to 16, including a four and a six off South Australia quick Henry Thornton. But shortly before the tea break, Krishna was struck on the helmet by a short ball from Thornton. The team physio performed a concussion test on the field, and Krishna batted on for a few more deliveries but eventually retired hurt.

Yash Thakur replaces Prasidh Krishna

Krishna will take no further part in the match, as Yash Thakur has replaced him as a concussion sub.

With India's home Test season imminent, Krishna's injury may throw a spanner into the works when it comes to their fast-bowling stocks. The squad is reported to be announced later today (September 24). Krishna took 14 wickets in India last Test series, the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England.

In this match, the hosts conceded 420 in the first innings, as Australia A's last-wicket pair of Todd Murphy (76) and Thornton (32*) added 91 to push them past 400 early on day two. Earlier in the innings, there were half-centuries from Jack Edwards (88) and captain Nathan McSweeney (74). Left-arm spinner Suthar was the standout bowler, taking 5-107 in 32 overs.
