Trinbago Knight Riders secured their fifth CPL title on Sunday, putting them in an elite group of franchise teams who have claimed that volume of silverware.
Teams have been ranked based on the number of titles they have won across events, in ascending order, starting with teams who have won three titles. Champions Leagues titles have been discounted from the final total, as the tournament contained both franchise and domestic T20 sides.
Oval Invincibles – 3
The most recent team to join this list, Oval Invincibles’ three men’s titles have come in the last three editions of the Hundred. They are just the second franchise team to achieve the three-peat and, as we will soon find out, the only currently active team to do so. On top of that, their women’s side won the first two editions of the women’s comp, meaning the Invincibles have taken a title from every season of the Hundred so far.
Kolkata Knight Riders – 3
After winning two titles in three years from 2012-2014, KKR had to wait a decade for their next taste of victory in the IPL. They did so in a record-breaking season which shifted the perceptions of what was possible in T20 batting. Their fortunes reversed this year, however, when they finished eighth in the group table.
Lahore Qalandars – 3
One of two Pakistan Super League sides to have three titles to their name, Lahore Qalandars lay claim to probably the most thrilling victory in a franchise final, with their remarkable one-run win over Multan Sultans in 2023. All three of their titles have come in the plast four seasons under the stewardship of record wicket-taker Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Islamabad United – 3
Tied with Lahore for most PSL trophies to date, Islamabad enjoyed most of their success in the early years of the competition, emerging as victors in two of the first three seasons. This included the first edition in 2016 with Andre Russell, who has won titles with five of the teams on this list, taking 3-37 in the final. Their most recent title came in 2024, disrupting Lahore’s era of dominance and briefly returning to their mantle of the most decorated side in the PSL.
Jamaica Tallawahs – 3
The first franchise in this list which is not currently active. Jamaica Tallawahs won three CPL titles in their ten years in the tournament, owing in no small part to their dominance when playing at Sabina Park. Another side to win the inaugural edition of their tournament, they were replaced by Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in 2024 in one of several signifiers of a worrying decline of cricket in Jamaica.
Sydney Sixers – 3
In addition to their three Big Bash League titles, Sydney Sixers are the first entrants to this list to have won the now-defunct Champions League, thrashing Johannesburg-based domestic outfit Lions at the Wanderers Stadium in 2012. They are one of only two sides to win consecutive BBL titles, doing so in 2019/20 and 2020/21.
Jaffna Kings – 4
Undoubtedly one of the most successful franchises ever on the field, while also being one of the most chaotic off it. Jaffa Kings, then Jaffna Stallions, won the first edition of the Lanka Premier League in 2020 before being terminated, brought back and renamed under the ownership of Lyca group, and then winning the next two titles to become the first three-peat franchise. They won again in 2024 before being axed again due to Lyca Group’s “failure to fulfil their contractual obligations”.
Comilla Victorians – 4
Another franchise who are decorated but with a tumultuous backstory, Comilla Victorians were founded in 2015 and tasted BPL success in their first season. More titles followed in 2019, 2022 and 2023, however the team was placed under the sponsorship of the Bangladesh Cricket Board from 2019-2021, who renamed the side to the Cumilla Warriors. The franchise returned to its original owners in 2021 but were absent from the 2025 edition, potentially due to its owner’s links to the Bangladeshi government following the Student-People’s uprising of 2024.
Trinbago Knight Riders – 5
Possessing maybe the coolest former name in franchise history, the ‘Red Steel’ have been a constant force in the CPL since its inception, winning the title in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2025. Their current squad boasts West Indies legends Kieran Pollard, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, and are coached by Dwayne Bravo. All five of their titles have come since they were bought out and renamed Trinbago Knight Riders in 2015. The first franchise to branch out of the IPL and into another league, the Knight Riders have been rewarded for their innovation with two spots on this list.
Perth Scorchers – 5
The most successful BBL side, Perth Scorchers have reached eight of the competition’s fourteen finals to date, which places them second in franchise finals appearances. They have gone back-to-back twice in 2013-15 and 2021-23. With player acquisitions operating differently in the BBL to other leagues, the Scorchers had the privilege of handing Ashton Turner, their captain and all-time leading run scorer, a new four-year deal last season.
Chennai Super Kings – 5
Chennai are a story of remarkable consistency, having reached 12 play-off stages and ten finals in their 16 seasons in the IPL. No one exemplifies that consistently more than MS Dhoni, who has represented the franchise in every year of its existence, spending the vast majority as captain. They hit a low this year, however, when they finished bottom of the IPL group table.
Mumbai Indians – 5
In the era of multi-nation franchises, MI are the leaders of the pack, with representation in New York, Cape Town, Abu Dhabi, and now London, as they will soon subsume Oval Invincibles into their global brand. Not to mention they also possess the predominant team in the Women’s Premier League. The brand is built on the wealth of the Ambani family, but also on the success of its original IPL side, who are level with Chennai on five titles (and two Champions Leagues), and boast several of the league’s most iconic players, including Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah.
