CPL 2025 team of the tournament

Trinbago Knight Riders beat Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final to win the 2025 edition of the CPL. Here is Wisden’s team of the tournament.

Colin Munro (TKR)

M: 13 | 416 runs at 32, SR: 163, HS: 120

In CPL 2025, no one scored more runs than Munro at a quicker rate, while he also scored one of the two hundreds. The big scores stopped towards the end, but that was largely because of his high-risk batting that had provided TKR with excellent starts.

Tim Seifert (SLK) – wicketkeeper

M: 12 | 396 runs at 44, SR: 169, HS: 125* | Ct: 4, St: 1

The scorer of the other hundred, Seifert finished behind Munro on the runs chart only because he played a game fewer. However, he scored at a rate higher than Munro’s. Having bludgeoned one attack after another throughout the tournament, they will join hands to form an explosive pair.

Nicholas Pooran (TKR) – captain

M: 13 | 426 runs at 43, SR: 133, HS: 90* | Ct: 6, St: 1

The CPL-winning captain scored at a slower rate than usual, but part of that was because he adopted an uncharacteristic role as the big hitters went after the bowling. He still hit 29 sixes (the second-most), and will be the second keeper of the XI.

Roston Chase (SLK)

M: 12 | 270 runs at 39, SR: 144, HS: 90*
11 wickets at 20, ec 7.50, BBI: 3-30

One of the definite contenders for the Player of the Tournament award, Chase checked all four boxes: he scored runs, got them quickly, was tight with the ball, and picked up the odd wicket. At times, he seemed to be waging a lone battle for his side.

Rovman Powell (BR)

M: 10 | 241 runs at 48, SR: 184, HS: 51*

Powell had an astonishing tournament where he hit 22 sixes in 131 balls – more often than one an over – to go with 13 fours. In the entire tournament, he was the only batter to score 50 runs at a strike rate exceeding 180.

Kieron Pollard (TKR)

M: 13 | 383 runs at 55, SR: 174, HS: 65
1 wicket at 85, ec 8.64, BBI: 1-4 | Ct: 9

Less explosive than Powell but only slightly – and over a more sustained period of time. Only Pooran came within 14 sixes of Pollard’s 36: he cleared the ropes about once every over. He bowled as well (and held four catches in the final!), though that may not be needed in this XI.

Jason Holder (STKNP)

M: 10 | 267 runs at 38, SR 168, HS: 63
13 wickets at 21, ec 7.80, BBI: 4-14

Holder will join Chase as the second truly successful all-rounder of CPL 2025. His tournament culminated in STKNP’s last league match, where he smashed a 30-ball 53 not out and claimed two wickets to defeat BR virtually on his own.

Dwaine Pretorius (GAW)

M: 12 | 196 runs at 28, SR 146, HS: 53
17 wickets at 20, ec 8.09, BBI: 3-43

The third of the all-round trinity of this XI, Pretorius kept GAW alive in the final with his tight, incisive bowling before TKR’s batting depth got them home. His 17 wickets were the most among seamers.

Gudakesh Motie (GAW)

M: 12 | 18 wickets at 16, ec 7.28, BBI: 5-21

Motie claimed 5-21 and 4-30 in consecutive games to propel GAW into the final. He could not replicate the same heroics in the final, but he still finished with the third-most wickets and an excellent economy rate.

Daniel Sams (BR)

M: 12 | 14 wickets at 19, ec 7.77, BBI: 3-29

Among seamers, only Pretorius had more wickets than Sams in a tournament otherwise dominated by spin. His left-arm angle will add depth to this already excellent attack.

Imran Tahir (GAW)

M: 12 | 23 wickets at 15, ec 7.20, BBI: 5-21

He may be 46, but Tahir does not seem to be going away anytime soon. Even in the final, after a long, exhausting tournament, he took 3-34 (including Pollard and Andre Russell with consecutive balls) to keep TKR at bay for a long time. They also put him three wickets clear of the other bowlers in the tournament.
