Tilak Varma slams 42-ball ton in Telangana T20 League a day after tri-series win
Captaining India A in the tri-series involving Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, Tilak slammed four fifties in five matches, including a 67-run knock in the final after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s blitz. India won the game by 66 runs.
Just about 24 hours later, the middle-order batter was lining up for the Medak Falcons in their Telangana T20 League game against Warangal Warriors in Hyderabad. He first picked up two wickets with his off-spin, returning figures of 2-29 from three overs, even as Warangal posted a massive 258-7 on the board.
He then almost single-handedly led the chase, slamming 14 fours and seven sixes in a 136-run knock that came off only 56 deliveries as Medak crossed the line with two balls to spare. Tilak completed his ton off 42 balls and remained unbeaten to see the team through. No.8 Vikram Naik Guguloth was the team’s second-highest scorer with 27 off 12.
Earlier in the game, Warangal batter Aman Rao had slammed a 32-ball ton, eventually finishing at 142 off 48, with 12 fours and 13 sixes, to take his side to a huge total.
Tilak Varma, the vice-captain of the India T20I side, will now join the team on their tour of the UK. Led by Shreyas Iyer, India will play two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and 28, before featuring in a five-T20I series against England from July 1 to 11.
