Sameer Minhas follows Malaysia blitzkrieg with 172 in final
Earlier in the tournament, Sameer Minhas had hit 177 not out against Malaysia on his debut for Pakistan U19 in 50-over cricket. There has been some confusion over the Youth ODI status of the that game, for the Malaysian senior team does not have ODI status.
However, there is no doubt that the Youth ODI status of India-Pakistan final of the 2025 Asia Cup. There, Sameer (brother of international cricketer Arafat) smashed 172 in 113 balls with 17 fours and nine sixes as Pakistan U19 amassed 347-8 after Ayush Mhatre won the toss and opted to field.
Sameer now holds the highest score for Pakistan in Youth ODIs irrespective of the status of the Malaysia match. He also went past Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s 171 against the UAE, the highest score in this edition in a game with confirmed Youth ODI status. The highest score in the history of the U19 Asia Cup, however, is Soumya Sarkar’s 209 against Qatar in the 2012 edition.
In response, Suryavanshi (26 in 10 balls) came out all guns blazing, but India collapsed from 49-1 to 59-4, and never recovered. Pakistan U19s went on to win by 191 runs after India U19 were bowled out for 156 in 26.2 overs.
