Croatia opener Connor Carroll continued his incredible start to international cricket with a fourth consecutive fifty-plus score on Friday (May 22).

Croatia opener Connor Carroll continued his incredible start to international cricket with a fourth consecutive fifty-plus score on Friday (May 22).

71, 150*, 74, 95: Connor Carroll continues world-record T20I career start

Carroll debuted for the Croatian national team in the Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional Europe Qualifier A, against France at Episkopi. In pursuit of 209, he hit 71 off 34 even as the rest of his side combined for just 55 runs.

Croatia batted first against Switzerland in their next game. This time, Carroll smashed his way to an unbeaten 150 in a team total of 199. Croatia won by 16 runs. The left-hander followed that up with 74 against Jersey in an unsuccessful chase of 281, and then on Friday made 95 as Croatia beat Cyprus by seven runs.

After four T20I innings, Carroll's career record reads 390 runs at an average of 130 and strike rate of 201.03. This run tally is the highest recorded in any four consecutive innings in men's T20I cricket, overtaking Frenchman Gustav Mckeon's 373. Coincidentally, Mckeon's run of scores also came in his first four innings.

He is now one of 15 players to record four consecutive 50-plus scores in men's T20Is. Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza is the only one to make five in a row, and Carroll has the chance to equal that today as Croatia take on Austria in the fifth-place playoff.

Carroll and Mckeon are also the only batters to start their men's T20I careers with four fifty-plus scores, so Carroll could become the first to make that five if and when he plays against Austria.
