In the cross-pool fixture, Yorkshire fell to a 56-run loss to Gloucestershire in the 2026 T20 Blast as D’Arcy Short enjoyed a memorable evening with both bat and ball.
D’Arcy Short enjoys record outing at Headingly
Opening the innings for Gloucestershire, D’Arcy Short recorded his highest-ever score in the T20 Blast as the Australian all-rounder scored 82 off 50 to help his side post a mammoth total of 217 on the board.
T20 Blast debutant Joe Phillips played an entertaining knock of 42 off 25 in a 95-run stand for the second wicket. While this was the fifth-highest team total in Gloucestershire’s T20 history, the innings against Yorkshire proved to be their best team total in the ongoing T20 Blast season.
Hasan Ali, Moeen Ali, and Andrew Tye were excellent with the ball as they recorded figures of 6/88 in 11 overs collectively, while Gloucestershire managed to score 119 runs without losing a wicket in the remaining nine overs.

Adam Lyth’s innings goes in vain
Chasing 218 was always going to be an uphill battle, but losing three wickets in the powerplay overs made the task even tougher for Yorkshire.
Adam Lyth missed his century by a whisker, failing to add to his only T20 hundred from nine years ago, when he made the highest individual score in T20 Blast history (161), a record that still stands to date. His innings of 97 off 56 went in vain, with the other batters failing to contribute to the run chase.
After 10 overs, Yorkshire seemed to be in the game as they were 99/3, but Short got wickets off consecutive deliveries in the 11th over, followed by two more in the 13th and the 15th overs to kill the game.
Short’s all-round effort of 82 and 4-31 became only the third instance when a player scored 80-plus runs and took four wickets in T20 Blast history and the first-ever instance of a Gloucestershire player doing the same.
Previously, Lancashire’s Brade Hodge (90 & 4/27) against Derbyshire in 2005 & Kent’s Darren Stevens (90 & 4/39) against Surrey in 2015 had achieved the rare feat.
Duan Jansen managed to dismiss both Andrew Tye and Hasan Ali cheaply after both tail-enders rescued the match against Derbyshire earlier in the season, sealing Yorkshire’s first loss of the season.
The first-ever T20 clash between the two counties was defined by a D’Arcy Short special as the Australian all-rounder’s match-winning record performance proved to be the difference in the battle of the two in-form teams.
