Beau Webster puts on solid show in Birmingham
Batting first, Warwickshire lost opening batter Robert Yates in the first over as Beau Webster joined Zen Malik in the middle. The Australian Test regular caused havoc from the word go as he smashed 10 fours and five maximums to record his T20 career-best of 97 runs off 55 balls.
James Sales proved to be quite expensive, conceding 63 runs off his quota of four overs, while the likes of Calvin Harrison, George Scrimshaw, and Ben Sanderson kept their economy rates in check, helping their side restrict the Bears to 208, after they had won the toss and elected to bat first.
Chris Lynn rolls back the years against Warwickshire
In the second innings, Chris Lynn came out with a purpose. The veteran batter played a match-winning innings of 115 off 59, sprinkled with 13 fours and 5 maximums.
This was the seventh T20 century for the former Australia star and his fifth in the T20 Blast as he helped Northamptonshire sit atop the Central group standings with 16 points from four games with a healthy net run rate.
Usman Tariq and Jordan Thompson managed to threaten the Steelbacks’ winning run but didn’t get enough support from the other bowlers as the likes of Chris Woakes and Oliver Hannon-Dalby returned wicketless.
Lynn’s swashbuckling innings powered his side’s run-chase as skipper Willey and Justin Broad’s brief cameos saw the game out as Northamptonshire won with four balls to spare.
