Middlesex all-rounder Ryan Higgins was dismissed hit-wicket in bizarre fashion in the T20 Blast London derby against Surrey at Lord’s on Sunday (May 24).
Ryan Higgins second batter to be dismissed hit-wicket in 2026 men's T20 Blast
Higgins was batting on 13 when he tried a cover drive off Tom Curran, only for the ball to hurry onto him and hit the upper half of the bat, causing it to slip out of his hands and clip the stumps. The dismissal left Middlesex struggling at 89-6 after 14.3 overs while batting first.
Higgins’ hit-wicket was the second such dismissal in the ongoing T20 Blast season. James Bracey also similarly lost his wicket during Gloucestershire’s two-wicket, last-ball win over Glamorgan on Saturday.
Eathan Bosch and Luke Hollman ensured Middlesex put up a fighting total, together adding 53 runs for the seventh wicket in 32 balls, and taking the team to 143-8. Hollman top-scored with a 28-ball 35, but it was Bosch’s quickfire 31 off 18, featuring two fours and two sixes, that did the maximum damage.
Surrey didn’t have the best of starts to their chase, losing both their openers early and falling to 23-2 by the end of powerplay. They also lost Ollie Pope and Dan Lawrence by the end of 11 overs, with the visitors at 59-4 at the stage, and Sam Curran and Laurie Evans out in the middle.
The duo ensured no more wickets fell, adding an unbeaten 88 runs for the fifth wicket to take their side through by the penultimate over. Curran was named the player of the match for a patient 47-ball 71*, while Evans remained not out for 34 off 21.
