Vaibhav Suryavanshi has continued his supreme form, hitting a quickfire 96 in India’s U19 World Cup warm-up game against Scotland.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi hits third consecutive 50+ score in lead up to U19 World Cup
Batting first, India posted 374, riding largely on Suryavanshi’s blitzkrieg at the top of the order. The teenager scored 42 of a 70-run opening partnership with captain Ayush Mhatre, and completed his 50 with a six off 27 balls.
He scored another 46 runs off his next 21 deliveries, hitting nine fours and seven maximums, before perishing for a 50-ball 96 on the second ball of the 16th over. This was Suryavanshi’s third consecutive 50+ score after a fifty and a hundred in the preceding Youth ODI series against South Africa.
The southpaw’s pyrotechnics allowed the Aaron George, Vihaan Malhotra and Abhigyan Kundu to spend crucial minutes in the middle ahead of the World Cup. All three scored fifties, ensuring India got to a healthy 374 despite a late mini-collapse.
India to start U19WC campaign on January 15
Suryavanshi is fresh off a third youth ODI hundred, which came in the third game of the three-match series against South Africa U19. He raced away to a 63-ball century, the joint-fourth fastest ton in Youth ODIs’ history. He also holds the record for the second and third fastest centuries in YODIs, with Pakistan’s Sameer Minhas taking the top spot recently.
He had also hit a whirlwind 24-ball 68 in the second YODI of the series, featuring a four and 10 sixes. The recent run of knocks sets him up perfectly for the U19 World Cup, with India starting their campaign on Thursday (January 15) against the USA in Bulawayo. They will also face England U19 in a warm-up game on Monday (January 12).
