With figures of 4-27 from his four overs, tournament debutant Shami helped Siliguri Strikers beat the Rarh Tigers by 24 runs at the Eden Gardens. Defending 209, Shami had Sumanta Gupta out caught in the first over. After the fielder at first slip parried the ball to his right, Geet Puri at a wide slip dived and took an excellent low catch.

Thanks to Shuvam Dey’s 25-ball 48 (six fours, two sixes) and Rahul Prasad’s 26-ball 44 (two fours, three sixes), Rarh remained alive in the chase, reaching 156-5 in the 16th over.

But Shami derailed the chase in that over. He had captain Shahbaz Ahmed caught in the deep; had Rohit Kumar top-edging a bouncer; and trapped Dipanjan Banerjee leg-before to complete a hat-trick. Rarh eventually finished on 184-9. Karan Lal (4-0-36-3) was Siliguri’s other successful bowler.

Earlier in the day, Vishal Bhati (86 in 46 balls, five fours, six sixes) helped Siliguri amass 208-4. Contributions also came from captain Sudip Chatterjee (32 in 23, five fours, one six), Karan (39 in 28, one four, three sixes), and Pramod Chandila (36 in 16, six fours, one six).

With two balls remaining in the innings, Shami walked out and hit the first ball he faced, off Sukhmeet Singh, for six. He ran for two to finish unbeaten on eight runs off two balls.

Shami last played for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Despite having an excellent domestic season for Bengal (and a reasonable outing in the 2026 IPL for the Lucknow Super Giants), he has not been able to return to the Indian side in any format.
