Duleep Trophy: Shreyas Iyer will be in action

The Duleep Trophy 2025 begins on August 28 in Bengaluru: here's all you need to know about the tournament, including latest news and updates from the competition.

The Duleep Trophy returns to its zonal format this year, with five teams set to play: North, South, East, West and North-East. This season, the tournament will be held in Bengaluru, at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. In the recent past, domestic fixtures in Bengaluru have been held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium or in Alur, but the stadium inside the city is currently off-limits, having been deemed "unsafe" in a court order.

Shubman Gill, India's vice-captain at the Asia Cup, could miss out the Duleep Trophy due to illness. Among others, Dhruv Jurel, on standby for the Asia Cup, will lead the Central Zone. Ishan Kishan, who was supposed to lead East Zone, is yet to recover from injury. Shreyas Iyer, left out of the Asia Cup squad, will be keenly followed in the West Zone, as would Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan.

Report: South Zone defy BCCI directive for centrally contracted players

South Zone have reportedly backed their decision to not include centrally contracted players like KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Sai Sudharsan, and Prasidh Krishna, with Tilak Varma being the only notable inclusion in their Duleep Trophy squad.

"Kerala qualified for the Ranji Trophy final (for the first time ever in the competition's history of 90 editions) and lost it narrowly. They had a remarkable season, and their players deserved selection for the Duleep Trophy. If the India players are to be taken into the squad, most Kerala players will not find a place in the zonal side," Cricbuzz quoted a South Zone official.
