Daren Sammy has issued a correction to his statement in an interview with Wisden's The Scoop, where he said Jason Holder had retired from ODI cricket. He has now rectified that statement.

In a special edition of The Scoop Extended, West Indies head coach Sammy said that Holder had retired from the ODI format. Holder has not played an ODI since the 2023 World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe.

“Jason is still in the mix for Tests. I know he’s retired from ODI cricket,” Sammy had said. “He has spoken about his interest, but obviously you know he’s a franchise player as well. So, it’s us talking about ... availability, where he fits. But yeah, he’s made it clear that he's still interested in Test cricket.”

On July 12 (Sunday), Sammy reached out to Wisden to issue a clarification on his statement, correcting that Holder has not retired from ODI cricket. “I would like to clarify comments I made during my recent appearance on The Scoop regarding Jason Holder's One-Day International (ODI) status,” said Sammy.

“In responding to a question about Jason’s international future outside of T20 cricket, I mistakenly referred to him as having retired from ODI cricket. That was an incorrect choice of words on my part, and I sincerely apologise to Jason, Cricket West Indies, and our fans for the confusion it has caused.

“The correct position is that Jason has taken an indefinite break from ODI cricket. He has not retired from the format, and he remains very much in the mix for West Indies selection. Jason continues to be an important part of our player pool, and Cricket West Indies remains in regular dialogue with him regarding his availability across all formats of the international game.

“Once again, I regret the error and appreciate the opportunity to set the record straight.”
