Ashutosh Sharma featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Delhi Capitals earlier this year, scoring 171 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 181.91.
After making a name for himself as one of India's most exciting T20 batters over the last couple of years, Ashutosh is set to test himself in the 50-over format. The 27-year-old has signed for Hampshire for the One-Day Cup, which gets underway on July 21.
It will not be his first taste of cricket in England. Ashutosh previously represented Middlesex Titans in 2017 before turning out for Gravesend in 2022 and 2023. Last year, he grabbed attention with a 70-ball century and backed it up with consecutive half-centuries for Wigan in the Liverpool League. He will now look to carry that form into county cricket with Hampshire.
Ashutosh arrives on the back of a productive campaign in the 2026 Madhya Pradesh League T20, where he captained the Malwa Stallions. While he has largely been known as a power-hitting finisher in franchise cricket, the tournament saw him make an impact as an all-rounder. Having bowled in only five T20 innings before the competition, taking four wickets, Ashutosh finished the MPL with seven wickets from eight innings. He also scored 165 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 152.77.
The right-hander first burst into the spotlight three years ago when he broke Yuvraj Singh's record for the fastest T20 fifty by an Indian. Representing Railways against Arunachal Pradesh, he raced to the milestone in just 11 deliveries, smashing eight sixes and a four.
That innings accelerated his rise through the ranks. Punjab Kings signed him ahead of IPL 2024, where he scored 189 runs from nine innings at a strike rate of 167.25. A year later, Delhi Capitals secured his services for INR 3.8 crore, a remarkable jump from his base price of INR 20 lakh. Across the last two IPL seasons, he has amassed 275 runs in 17 innings at a strike rate of nearly 170.
His move to Hampshire also presents an opportunity to establish himself in the longer white-ball format. Ashutosh has played 21 List A matches, scoring 458 runs at a strike rate of 131.60, with three half-centuries.
