One time England Test spinner Mason Crane has been selected for England Lions' 50-over squad to take on South Africa A, eight years since his last international appearance.
Crane, who last represented England during his only Test appearance in the 2017/18 Sydney Ashes Test, is one of two leg-spinners in the squad, with Rehan Ahmed also included. His call-up comes after an impressive first part of the county summer. He took 18 wickets in the first block of County Championship fixtures, as well as scoring 99 against Leicestershire, falling one run short of a maiden first-class century. He has also taken five wickets in Glamorgan's first three T20 Blast matches.
Having been picked for England's 2017/18 Ashes series, Crane endured a chastening outing in Sydney eight years ago, when England had already lost the urn. He conceded the most runs of any England debutant, returning figures of 1-193 in England's only bowling innings. Following battling a stress fracture in his back and getting limited red-ball opportunities at Hampshire, Crane moved to Glamorgan in 2024.
