Scoring a hundred as an opener is particularly demanding, as it requires facing the new ball against fresh bowlers under often challenging conditions. Early movement off the pitch and through the air means there is little margin for error, with batters needing to combine patience and technique from the outset. Beyond surviving the toughest phase, openers also carry the responsibility of setting the tone, whether by building a platform for the innings or absorbing pressure against high-quality attacks.

Yet, several players have made the spot their own. There have been three openers who have scored more than 10,000 runs at the spot, while two have managed to make more than 30 hundreds, with the one who leads the chart – his name should come easily to you – making 45 tons at the top of the order.

Overall, nine openers have scored 20 or more hundreds until March 17, 2026, while nine others have made between 15 and 19. In this quiz, you have to name all with at least five ODI hundreds as openers – and while it’s an exhaustive list with 59 names, most should be straightforward fills.
