England opening batter Tammy Beaumont is set to call time on her 17-year long international career after the historic Test match at Lord's against India later this week.
Beaumont has made 260 appearances for England Women since making her debut in 2009, including 11 Test matches, 140 ODIs and 109 T20Is. She retires second on the list of England's leading ODI run-scorers, with only Charlotte Edwards having scored more than her 4,738 runs in the format. She is also England's leading ODI centurion, with 12 hundreds, the most recent of these being back-to-back tons against the West Indies last year.
Her most memorable century, however, will go down as the double she scored against Australia in the 2023 Ashes Test at Trent Bridge. She was the first England player to score a double hundred in a women's Test match, and her 208 puts her sixth on the list of the most runs scored in a women's Test innings.
She was also Player of the Tournament in England's 2017 World Cup win, ammassing 410 runs across the tournament and finishing as its leading run-scorer. Four years before that, Beaumont had become one of the first tranche of players awarded central contracts by the ECB, marking the first time England Women players played as professionals.
However, Beaumont struggled to maintain a consistent place in England's T20I side over the last five years of her career. She was left out of England's Commonwealth Games squad in 2022, and featured sporadically from 2024. Earlier this year, she was left out of both England's T20I and ODI squads to face New Zealand and India, as well as their squad for the T20 World Cup.
Beaumont said: “Playing for England for nearly 17 years has been the greatest honour. When I fell in love with playing cricket as a young girl, I barely knew that playing cricket for England was an option and it brings me so much joy to think how many girls and boys have been inspired, this summer especially, and how far the game has come in our country.
“We've always wanted to take the cap forward for the next generation and the time has come for me to hand over that privilege to the next generation of England players.
“This Test match at Lord’s – our first ever women’s Test at Lord’s – feels like the perfect occasion to sign off on a career that I could never have dreamt would be as special as it has been.”
Beaumont will continue to play domestic cricket for Blaze, and represent Birmingham Phoenix in this year's Hundred. She is also expected to step out as part of England's XI for their first-ever Test match at Lord's, which they will contest against India starting on Friday.
