Australia flattened Netherlands, Bangladesh beat Pakistan to get their first points on the board, and England kept their clean sheet over Scotland in the T20 World Cup today (June 20). Here’s how the Women’s T20WC points tables look after the game.
Australia overcame injury to Beth Mooney to put 219-6 on the board against the Netherlands. Mooney retired hurt on 74 off 32, leaving Georgia Voll to keep wicket with Phoebe Litchfield still missing with injury. Ash Gardner contirbuted with a half-century, while a Georgia Wareham cameo boosted Australia with 41 off 18. In response, Netherlands were two down early, losing Heather Siegers and Phebe Molkenboer within the powerplay, before Babette de Leede and Sterre Kalis put on a 94-run partnership. It was never going to be enough for Netherlands, however, and Australia brushed them aside to remain top of Group A.
The most exciting fixture of the day came from Bangladesh and Pakistan, which turned into a low-scoring thriller. Bangladesh scored 123-6, limitted by the inroads of Fatima Sana, who took 2-18. However, Pakistan never really got going in their chase. Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali put on 41 for the first wicket partnership before Nahida Akter broke the partnership. Nahida dismissed Muneeba in her next over before Sanjida Akhter Maghla took two in the same over, leaving Pakistan at 70-4. From there, Pakistan lost four wickets in their next four overs, and finished their innings well short on 100-8. That gave Bangladesh their first win in the tournament.
In the final match of the day at Headingley, England brushed aside Scotland. They posted 200-5 thanks to an explosive sixth wicket partnership between Dani Gibson and Freya Kemp, who put on 61 from 21 balls. Scotland lost wickets at regular intervals in the chase, with Charlie Dean breaking the opening partnership, before Sophie Ecclestone took her first of two wickets to dismiss Katherine Bryce. From there, Scotland's challenge effectively ended, and they finished on 162-7, losing by 38 runs.
