Duan Jansen picks up five-for, ends with eight in the game

Unlike in the first innings, where Jansen’s first wicket came in the 39th over of the innings, he got into the act straightaway in the second essay. Taking the new ball, he dismissed Smith in the ninth over of the innings, as the side fell to 44-2. He got two in two after David Bedingham edged one to the keeper Rivaldo Moonsamy, as the opposition lost another.

Simon Harmer picked up three of the next four wickets to fall, before Jansen returned to clean up the tail. He dismissed Beuran Hendricks, Mbulelo Dube and Dane Paterson within the space of 3.4 overs, as Western Province were shot out for 228, leaving the Titans a target of 164 for a win.

Jansen finished with figures of 8-132, his best in first-class cricket, beating his 7-61 that he got against KwaZulu-Natal Coastal in the same tournament in December. It was also his fourth five-wicket haul in 29 matches, taking his tally to 74 scalps in the format, at an average of 29.

The 25-year-old also contributed with a 52-ball 24 in the first innings, combining with Dala (15* in 43) after two quick wickets had fallen. Jansen has picked up 24 wickets in the ongoing competition, in eight innings, at an average of 18.83, with two five-fors.
