Biography

Michael Papps is a short, stylish but not a dasher style of opening batsman. He rose through the junior level to make into the state team. After a prolific run-scoring 2003-04 season in the domestic circuit, Papps made into an entry into the New Zealand team. He made an impressive start to his career but an injury ruled him out of the international arena for a couple of years.

He has great footwork and the ability to milk the bowlers around the corners for singles and doubles. Being short in stature, Papps likes to pull and hook the ball and is not scared of hostile quick bowling. The 28-year old is an agile fielder which makes an exciting prospect to watch on the field.

In years to come, Papps can be the answer to New Zealand's long-running search for a capable opening batsman if he maintains consistency and remains injury-free.
