Mst. Sumaiya Akther Suborna, a wicketkeeper-batter, is among the brightest young prospects to emerge from Bangladesh’s cricketing pathway. Drawn to the game from an early age, she progressed quickly through age-group cricket before finding her place in the national under-19 setup. Her sharp work behind the stumps and a composed presence with the bat soon marked her out as a player of real potential.

Her progress gathered pace with consistent performances for Mymensingh Division, first in school-level cricket and later in the Women’s National Cricket League. Those displays opened the door to higher honours, and she was named in the Bangladesh Under-19 squad in the build-up to the 2025 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Leadership responsibilities soon followed when she captained the side in a tri-series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. While her runs with the bat were limited, her wicketkeeping stood out and underlined her value to the side.

Suborna went on to represent Bangladesh at the Under-19 Women’s Asia Cup and the Under-19 World Cup. The global tournament proved a quiet one for her statistically, but the glimpses of ability and temperament she displayed ensured she remained firmly in the selectors’ plans. Later that year, she earned a call-up to the Bangladesh Emerging squad for the home series against South Africa, a clear indication of the trust placed in her potential. That steady rise culminated in a huge breakthrough, as she earned selection in Bangladesh’s squad for the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup.
