After retaining the Ashes in England, the Australian squad of 1964 made a detour of the Netherlands for a one-innings, one-day match at The Hague. Shortly after the toss, when the scoreboard displayed the message “Australia wint de toss en begint te batten” – an unusual moment in a sport that had largely restricted itself to England and her colonies.
