Afghanistan Test captain Hashmatullah Shahidi has followed-up his third first-class double century with a third-innings ton in the same match.
In doing so, the 30-year-old has become the first player from Afghanistan to score both a double hundred and a century in the same first-class game. Shahidi's scores came in the opening game of the Ahmad Shah Abdali four-day tournament – Afghanistan's first-class competition – between Hindukush Strikers and Mah-e-Par Stars.
His double in the first-innings came in the wake of a top-order collapse which saw Hindukush Strikers reduced to 70-4 by Mohammad Ibrahim and Sayed Shirzad. Shahidi was one of only three players to score more than 30 in the innings and his 205 was more than half of Hindukush's total of 405.
Mah-e-Par Stars made 407-9 declared in response, with Test capped all-rounder Shahidullah making 174 off 366 balls. In response, Shahidi again stood out among his teammates, scoring 104 out of their total of 283-7 declared as the match was drawn before the fourth innings.
Hashmatullah Shahidi sets national record
Shahidi is the first player from Afghanistan to register a double and a century in the same game. Worldwide, this is the 78th instance of the feat.
The first player to do so was CB Fry in a County Championship game in 1900, while the last player before Shahidi to achieve the milestone was Roshan Wijenayake in February this year, who did so in a first-class game in Sri Lanka. Other notable names among the most recent on the list include Yashasvi Jaiswal, Saim Ayub, and Marnus Labuschagne.
Shahidi also scored a double hundred in Afghanistan's most recent Test series, making 246 against Zimbabwe - the highest score by an Afghanistan player in a Test match.
