Mayank Agarwal's struggles in the County Championship continued as he recorded his second duck in three innings for Yorkshire.
Mayank's maiden county stint doesn't go to plan
Mayank joined Yorkshire for a short county stint, his first-ever in the Championship. The Karnataka captain joined the team for their last three games of the season: against Somerset, the ongoing game against Sussex, and Durham.
He was slotted in at three, below the pair of Adam Lyth and Finlay Bean. Against Somerset, he fell to a first-ball duck, caught by Tom Abell off the bowling of Lewis Gregory. A second innings didn't come by to make amends, with rain shortening the game, and giving Somerset three bonus points.
In the next game against Sussex, Mayank managed to get going, put kept losing partners at the other end. Having come in with the score on 69, he spent nearly two and a half hours in the middle, and was the eighth wicket to fall, finishing with 26 off 87. If it wasn't for Jordan Thompson's 38 from No.9, Yorkshire probably wouldn't have managed to cross 150.
Fellow India international Jaydev Unadkat stood out from the opposition, claiming three wickets, including Mayank's wicket.
Two ducks in three innings
Mayank got another go in the second innings, with Sussex restricted to 250. He came in early this time, walking in inside the second over itself at the fall of Adam Lyth's wicket. He lasted only three balls, falling to James Coles, whose part-time spin made an early but highly effective appearance in the second innings. At one point, Yorkshire were reduced to 6-3, but Jonny Bairstow and James Wharton put together a fifty-run stand.
Mayank has one more game left to sign off on a high, against Durham. Yorkshire are currently placed seventh in the Division One table, while Durham are ninth.
After that, Mayank is expected to be back in action in October in the 2025/26 Ranji Trophy, in Karnataka's opener against Saurashtra.
