Middlesex sign Harry Duke on loan to bring on as injury sub against Lancashire
Middlesex wicketkeeper Joe Cracknell picked up a finger injury during the first day’s play of the Division Two matchup against Lancashire. Jack Davies, part of the squad, was a like-for-like replacement but was unavailable for selection due to personal reasons, forcing the club to look elsewhere for an injury replacement.
They eventually signed Yorkshire wicketkeeper-batter Harry Duke on a two-week loan deal on the morning of the second day of the match, and brought him on as a substitute at the start of play. With Middlesex’s next game, against Derbyshire, falling within the eight-day cooling period, a prerequisite for injury subs in the County Championship, Duke could be the backup keeper for that game should Davies make himself available for selection.
“Joe Cracknell has been removed from the remainder of this weekend’s Rothesay County Championship clash against Lancashire after suffering a finger injury on the opening day,” Middlesex announced in a statement. “His injury is currently being assessed by medical staff.
“With Jack Davies currently unavailable for selection due to personal reasons, Harry Duke will come in as the injury replacement. Duke joined the club on loan this morning for the next two weeks.”
Middlesex’s director of cricket, Alan Coleman, thanked Yorkshire for getting the deal through on short notice. “I’m delighted to welcome Harry to the club for the next two weeks,” he said. “I would like to thank Gavin Hamilton and Yorkshire CCC for their efforts in getting this agreement through at short notice.”

Lancashire were bowled out for 201 batting first at Old Trafford. Keaton Jennings top-scored for them with 67, while Toby Roland-Jones, Ryan Higgins and Sebastian Morgan all took three wickets each. In reply, Middlesex were at 116-5, with Duke having come on at No.7 and played just eight balls for three runs when rain stopped play. James Anderson has taken three wickets so far in the innings.
