Asa Tribe batted through the opening day for Glamorgan against Essex to notch up his second consecutive century in Division One.

Tribe remained not out on 135 at stumps off 265 deliveries, with 14 fours, steering Glamorgan to 318-3. He had slammed his season-best 155 against Surrey in the previous game, which was also his maiden Division One ton, to turn around an otherwise middling season with the bat.
With this century, Tribe has taken his tally of runs this season to 891 in 26 innings at 37.12, with two hundreds and four fifties, and will have the opportunity to better that when he walks out to bat on the second day. The 22-year-old shared a 76-run opening stand with Zain-ul-Hassan before building a dominant 178-run partnership with captain Kiran Carlson, who scored a 17th first-class century.
Tribe then joined hands with Colin Ingram, who is playing in the final match of his professional career, to add an unbeaten 58 for the fourth wicket.

Just like against Surrey, the young batter has batted with immense patience for a staggering 361 minutes. Overall, this is Tribe’s sixth first-class ton. He also completed 2000 runs in red-ball cricket in 57 innings and is currently averaging 41.5 in the format.
For the unversed, Tribe has played international cricket for Jersey, featuring in five ODIs and 26 T20Is so far, but dreams of representing England at the highest level. He enjoyed a breakthrough summer last season, scoring his first-ever double hundred in first-class cricket and was also the leading run-scorer for Glamorgan in the One-Day Cup, amassing 401 runs at 80.2.
He was picked in the England Lions squad for the Australia tour in 2025-26, and impressed right away with an unbeaten 129 in the unofficial Test match.
