The hard-fought England-India series came to a dramatic conclusion on the fifth day at The Oval. Bad light and rain having pushed the Test into day five, England needed 35 runs to win 3-1 and India four wickets to level the series 2-2.
Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna continued to hoop the ball around corners, reducing England to 357-9 and forcing Chris Woakes to walk out to bat with a dislocated shoulder. Gus Atkinson then threatened a heist, bringing England within seven runs of victory before Siraj smashed his stumps with a pinpoint yorker to redeem himself and India from the heartbreak at Lord's earlier in the series.

In what was a very high-scoring affair, multiple batting records were broken and created over the course of the five Tests, including those of the second-most runs scored in a Test series and the joint-most individual hundreds.
With the victory at The Oval, India moved above England on the 2025-2027 World Test Championship points table to occupy the third spot.

On the ICC Test team rankings, however, there hasn't been any movement after the 2-2 series result. India remain fourth, just below England, who have lost one rating point. India, on the other hand, have gained two to reduce the gap to just five points between the two sides.
