England came from behind to level the three-match ODI series with a four-wicket win on Thursday. Here's how the men's ODI team rankings look after the game
Chasing 234 in the second ODI, the hosts had a jittery start to their innings after both their openers were sent packing inside four overs. However, Joe Root dropped anchor with a composed knock of an unbeaten 99 to take the hosts over the line. With the series levelled at 1-1, it will be all to play for at Lord's on July 19.
Despite the defeat, India maintained their pole position in the ICC men's ODI rankings, with 119 rating points. England, who were placed eighth in the charts after their defeat in the first ODI at Edgbaston, have now climbed a spot after levelling the series. With just over a year to go until the 2027 ODI World Cup, every game matters, with only the top eight teams in the rankings, alongside hosts South Africa, earning automatic qualification.
Beyond the India-England series, the battle for direct qualification is also intensifying between Bangladesh and the West Indies. After victory in the first ODI against New Zealand, the West Indies suffered losses in the two subsequent ODIs. As a result, their rating came down by a point. Bangladesh, on the other hand, lost their three-match ODI series to Zimbabwe 1-2. Their next ODI assignment is scheduled for December, against South Africa.
