England became the second team to name their squad for the Women's World Cup, which includes a return for a former captain.
Heather Knight, Danni Wyatt-Hodge return to England squad for 2025 World Cup
On Thursday (August 21), England joined hosts India in announcing their 15-member squad for the tournament, over a month in advance. The most significant news is the return of Heather Knight, who was ruled out of the remainder of the home summer after picking up a hamstring injury in late May.
Knight, who was removed as England captain following last year's T20 World Cup, last played an ODI in January against Australia, but her last appearance for England came in a T20I against West Indies, three days prior to the injury.
Two more players who missed the home ODI series against India have returned to the squad – opening batter Danni Wyatt-Hodge and leggie Sarah Glenn. Wyatt-Hodge played the T20Is against India, while Glenn's last England appearances came in the West Indies ODIs and T20Is.
“Conditions mean we have gone for the extra spinner and we’re lucky to be able to have such depth in this department, it’s fantastic to welcome Sarah Glenn back,” said England head coach Charlotte Edwards. “That does mean there’s no room for Kate Cross, Maia Bouchier or Alice Davidson-Richards, which will be disappointing for them.

“It’s also great to have Danni back in the squad, she’s been in good form in domestic cricket and she’ll bring dynamism and depth to our batting, alongside Heather, who we are absolutely delighted to be able to select. She’ll be a huge asset for us.”
England have selected four specialist spinners in all, in the form of Charlie Dean, Sophie Ecclestone and Linsey Smith, in addition to Glenn. Batting all-rounder Alice Capsey also provides the option of part-time off-spin.
