Mustafizur will replace Fraser-McGurk

After Jake Fraser-McGurk ruled himself out for the remainder of the 2025 IPL, Delhi Capitals signed up Mustafizur Rahman as his replacement.

IPL 2025 had to be halted as tension escalated between India and Pakistan, but is set to resume on May 17. On May 14, Delhi Capitals’ Fraser-McGurk pulled out of the rest of the season.

Debuting in the IPL in 2024 for the same franchise, Fraser-McGurk became an instant success, smashing 330 runs at an absurd strike rate of 234. In 2025, however, he has made only 55 runs at 106 and was dropped from the XI halfway through the season.

DC have now replaced Fraser-McGurk with Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur. While not Fraser-McGurk’s like-for-like replacement, Mustafizur’s signing may have to do with him being a left-arm seamer like Mitchell Starc. There have been reports around Starc opting out of the rest of the season as well.

Mustafizur played in the IPL for the first time in 2016, for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. That season, he became the first (and till date, only) overseas cricketer to win the IPL Emerging Player Award. He played for SRH (in 2016 and 2017), Mumbai Indians (in 2018), Rajasthan Royals (2021), DC (2022 and 2023), and Chennai Super Kings (2024).

From 57 IPL games, he has 61 wickets at 28.88 and an economy of 8.14. Across the two seasons for DC, his nine wickets have come at 35.88 as he went at 8.28 an over.

In a career spanning more than a decade, “The Fizz” has 351 T20 wickets at 21.72 and 7.51. In T20Is, he has 132 wickets (among seamers, only Tim Southee has more: 164) at 21.62 and 7.51.
