Lucknow Super Giants handed a debut to batter-wicketkeeper Mukul Choudhary, a 21-year-old power-hitter from Rajasthan, against Delhi Capitals on April 1. Here is a closer look at the latest addition to their lineup.

Who is Mukul Choudhary, the latest LSG debutant against DC?

Choudhary was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 2.60 crore (approximately USD 276,000) at the 2026 player auction, following a competitive bidding contest involving Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.

While his experience at the T20 level remains limited, with only seven matches to his name, his numbers underline the interest he generated. He has scored 210 runs at an average of 42, striking at 165, showcasing his ability as an aggressive middle-order option.

A product of the same academy that honed Karthik Sharma (bought for INR 14.20 crore by CSK) and Ashok Sharma (whose first ball in the IPL was bowled at 150kmph), Choudhary initially started as a fast bowler before he took up the wicketkeeping gloves.

Choudhary was unable to leave a mark on first-class debut, in 2023, making only two runs in the only game he played that season. He also turned out in two T20 matches in October 2023, but scores of 35 (33) and 2 (7) meant that he did not play another game for Rajasthan for the next two years.

However, a breakout season in the Men’s U-23 State A Trophy in 2025, where he was the only batter to score over 600 runs, forced him back in the reckoning. Choudhary scored 617 runs at 103 with back-to-back hundreds at a strike rate of 142, which helped him earn a place in the Rajasthan squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also hit 34 sixes in the competition, the most by any batter.

In the 2025/26 SMAT, Choudhary scored 173 runs at 57.66 in five matches at an astonishing strike rate of 199. His six-hitting has already impressed the LSG management, with head coach Justin Langer telling skipper Rishabh Pant that he could become the “scariest No.6 or No.7 batter in India in the next four months”.

Choudhary has also played five List A matches, but with below-par returns, averaging 14.20 and a high score of 33 in five innings.
