Thomas Rew, brother of England Test contender James, scored his second consecutive One-Day Cup fifty in Somerset’s four-wicket victory over Durham on Friday (August 8).
Chasing Durham's target of 256, the Rew brothers - James and Thomas - came together at 78-3 and built a 95-run partnership before James fell for 39 off 52. Quick dismissals of Josh Thomas (9) and Finley Hill (0) then left Somerset in trouble at 189-6.
Their chase was then spearheaded by the younger Rew, 17-year-old Thomas, who smashed an unbeaten 84 off 81 balls in just his second One-Day Cup appearance. His knock, laced with eight fours and two sixes, was backed by No.8 Ben Green (34 not out off 35), as Somerset clinched a four-wicket win.
Earlier in the match, Somerset's victory was set up by Alfie Ogborne's maiden five-wicket haul (5-41). Durham's Will Rhodes was the standout performer, scoring 100 off 120 balls in their total of 255-9. Rhodes also contributed with the ball (3-42), but his all-round efforts ultimately proved in vain.

Thomas Rew scores consecutive One-Day Cup half-centuries
This was Thomas' second consecutive One-Day Cup fifty. Just two days earlier, in his tournament debut against Middlesex, he had scored a 54-ball 51 (with three fours and three sixes) in a 107-run partnership with his elder brother James, who struck an unbeaten 106 in Somerset’s six-wicket victory.
Rew made his List A debut a month earlier while playing for the First-Class Counties Select XI against Pakistan Shaheens at Hove. He scored 44 off 52 balls in that match, though it came in a losing cause.
Having captained Somerset's Second XI, Rew led England Under-19s during their 2-3 Youth ODI series defeat to India in June-July. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the series with 280 runs at 93.33 at a strike rate of 142.13, including his maiden U19 century for England in a thrilling one-wicket victory during the second game. He also featured in two drawn Youth Tests against India, scoring 162 runs at 40.50 with two fifties, captaining the side in the second match.
