0, 54, 0 - South Africa starlet's stop-start Pakistan Test tour continues

He followed that innings with a 26-ball 53 and now boasts a strike rate of 192.73 in T20Is. Although tipped for stardom since his Under-19 days, that explosive form has not yet translated into the other formats in his young career. He currently averages 27.60 in Tests and just 22.00 after six ODIs. His recall to the South African squad for the series against Zimbabwe in June came after a two-year hiatus, a reward for his consistent domestic performances

Dewald Brevis fell for a duck on day two (October 21) of South Africa’s second match of the ongoing Test series against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.

Batting first, Pakistan were bowled out for 333, with Shan Masood (87) top-scoring and Keshav Maharaj taking a record-breaking seven-wicket haul for South Africa. In reply, the visitors slipped to 54-2 before a 113-run stand between Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs helped them consolidate.

De Zorzi fell for 55 to 38-year-old debutant Asif Afridi, bringing Brevis to the crease. However, Brevis couldn't trouble the scorers, falling for a four-ball duck to the same bowler. This sparked a mini-collapse, as South Africa slipped from 167-2 to 171-4.

Dewald Brevis' Test struggle continues

Brevis's stuttering form continued in the series. In his two previous innings in Lahore, he was also dismissed by spinners, scoring a duck and a run-a-ball 54.

This is in stark contrast to his performance in August, when he took the world by storm with a 125 not out off 56 balls against Australia in a T20I – the highest score by a South African in the format. That 41-ball century also made him South Africa's second-fastest centurion and, at 22 years and 105 days, their youngest.
