Explained: Why full DRS is not in use for the PSL playoffs and final

Why DRS is not used in PSL playoffs

The PSL 2025 playoffs, including the final, won't have DRS available for use.

The Pakistan Super League restarted on May 17 following a brief suspension due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. Upon resumption, the PSL faced the issue of player availability, with several overseas players who had left the country during the crisis not returning for the remaining games due to various reasons.

PSL 2025: DRS not available for playoffs

Adding to the logistical complications, the PSL playoffs, which began today (May 21) with Quetta Gladiators taking on Islamabad United in Lahore, will go ahead without the use of the Decision Review System (DRS) technology.

While there's no official word from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) explaining the reasons behind the absence of DRS, multiple reports suggest that the Hawk-Eye crew, who provide the technology, did not travel back to the country. The IPL, meanwhile, has not faced any such issues with regards to implementation of DRS upon resumption.

In fact, DRS has not been in use since the PSL resumed on May 17.

The Decision Review System was first used in the Pakistan Super League in the playoffs of the 2017 edition. The IPL, for comparison, introduced the DRS in 2018.
