The PSL committee had banned Blessing Muzarabani for two years for violating their contract. Muzarabani’s agency WSX has now issued a statement that he had never signed a contact with the league.
What is the Blessing Muzarabani contract controversy?
After going unsold at the PSL 2026 auction, Muzarabani was picked up by Islamabad United for the 2026 season. However, the Kolkata Knight Riders, keen to find a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman (whom they had to release after being asked by the BCCI), signed him up for IPL 2026.
After Muzarabani opted for the latter, the PSL committee banned him for two years (an increase from the one-year ban on Corbin Bosch, who had left Peshawar Zalmi for Mumbai Indians in 2025). Meanwhile, Muzarabani played twice for the KKR, picking up four wickets.
“You simply cannot breach a contract you have never received”
On April 19, Muzarabani’s agent WSX Cricket issued a statement on their client on social media. “We’ve remained quiet publicly over the last 6 weeks because we did not wish to create or cause anymore animosity for the Pakistan Super League/Pakistan Cricket Board than they had already created for themselves.”
The agency also heavily criticised the fans who had attacked Muzarabani on social media. “Due to the voluminous and disgusting nature of criticism directed at Blessing via social media, I will no longer stay silent ... To the so called ‘fans’ that fill his social media DMs with vile hatred, you are an utter disgrace to humanity and you are cowards.” They then went on to provide the following timeline of events:
February 13: IU approach Muzarabani and WSX for PSL 2026. They agreed on the deal, subject to obtaining an NOC from Zimbabwe Cricket, which cannot be obtained without a PSL contract. On the same day, IU and the PSL announced the signing on social media.
February 27: With no contract from PSL or IU, Muzarabani signs up for KKR for IPL 2026.
“You simply cannot breach a contract you have never received”, added WSX. “We feel any ban on participation in the PSL is incredibly excessive and is not consistent with the punishment given to players that have actually breached a contract in the past. I have never seen a player so publicly admonished and criticised for doing nothing wrong. We urge the PSL to gracefully withdraw the ban and accept this situation for what it is, an administrative error at their end, nothing more. We bare [sic] no grudges toward the PSL/Islamabad United.”
