Pakistan’s Ali Raza, an 18-year-old seamer, picked up the sixth hat-trick in the PSL history during Peshawar Zalmi’s clash with Karachi Kings today (April 22).

Batting first, Karachi were 161-3 in 17.4 overs, after opener Jason Roy gave the team a blistering start with a 51-ball 85. However, the last 14 balls of the innings ended up rather devastatingly for Karachi, as they managed only 21 runs for the loss of six wickets.

The collapse began when Azam Khan departed for a 19-ball 35 by Iftikhar Ahmed, with Roy following soon after. They scored 15 runs in three balls as Karachi looked for a strong finish, but four wickets in the last three balls derailed them, keeping them down to 182-9.

Ali Raza picks up a PSL hat-trick

The fourth ball of the last over, bowled by Raza, resulted in a run out of Abbas Afridi, after his partner Khushdil Shah was caught ball-watching. The delivery was also called a wide, which gave Raza three more legal deliveries. Next up, Khushdil was involved in a freak dismissal, out hit wicket, after he attempted to drive a yorker towards long-on. The penultimate delivery, yet another yorker, rattled Shahid Aziz’s middle stump, giving Raza two in two.

He eventually got his hat-trick after he dismissed Hasan Ali, a full toss bowled at 149.1kmph that shattered his stumps. Raza became just the seventh bowler with a PSL hat-trick, and also the youngest to claim one in the competition. Raza ended with four wickets, but was slightly expensive, conceding 41 runs.

Raza made his professional debut in 2024 and represented Pakistan in the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year, where he finished with 13 wickets, the joint third-highest wicket-taker, at a stunning average of 9.07. He has played 19 T20s, picking up 25 wickets at 22.76.
