Shivam Mavi picked up a seven-wicket haul for Uttar Pradesh in their Ranji Trophy game against defending champions Vidarbha on Friday (January 30).
Shivam Mavi's fiery spell enforces first-innings tie in Uttar Pradesh vs Vidarbha
With a quarterfinal spot out of reach, Uttar Pradesh batted first in Nagpur and were bowled out for 237 on the first day. Dhruv Jurel held one end even as wickets fell around him, with his 92-run partnership with Mavi for the sixth wicket being the highest of the innings. But while Jurel fell four short of his hundred, Mavi was dismissed three runs away from a fifty.
The pacer made up for the lost batting milestone with a scintillating outing with the ball. Vidarbha, after finishing the first day at 33 without loss, were jolted in just the third over on the second, as Mavi snared Aman Mokhade caught behind.

He then dismissed Rohit Binkar and Ravikumar Samarth on consecutive deliveries before Satyam Bhoyar was caught behind as well. Kartik Tyagi and Karan Chaudhary also chipped in with a wicket each as Vidarbha were reduced to 95-6.
But a spirited 126-run stand between Danish Malewar and Nachiket Bhute resurrected Vidarbha’s innings just as Mavi returned for a fiery second spell. Within 4.3 overs, Vidarbha went from 221-6 to 237 all out, with the pacer picking up three of the last four wickets.
He first broke the century stand by removing Malewar and followed up with Parth Rekhade’s wicket in the next over. Bhute was run out soon after, while Mavi finished the proceedings by dismissing Yash Thakur to ensure the first-innings scores were level, and UP did not concede a lead.
The haul of 7-59 was Mavi’s fifth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket and second in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. He has also played international cricket for India, featuring in six T20Is to take seven wickets, all of which came in back-to-back three-match series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in January-February 2023.
