Ranji Trophy roundup

Round six of the 2025/26 Ranji Trophy ran from January 22 to 26. Here is a round-up of all the action from the sixth round of matches.

Elite Group A

Anil Parida’s 98 went in vain as chasing 455 against Tamil Nadu, Odisha were bowled out for 247. Having already taken a five-for and scored a fifty, Sonu Yadav added 2-39. Saurabh Shekhar (5-16) helped Jharkhand skittle Uttar Pradesh for 74 and win by an innings. Andhra ended defending champion Vidarbha’s 16-match unbeaten streak by comfortably chasing 259: they were 114-2, but Shaik Rashid (132 not out) and Ricky Bhui (64 not out) ensured an eight-wicket win.

  • Tamil Nadu 286 (Pradosh Ranjan Paul 78; Debabrata Pradhan 3-37) and 316 (Athish SR 88; Badal Biswal 3-56) beat Odisha 148 (Anil Parida 56; Sonu Yadav 5-30) and 247 (Anil Parida 98) by 207 runs.
  • Jharkhand 561-6d (Sharandeep Singh 139, Kumar Kushagra 102) beat Uttar Pradesh 176 (Abhishek Goswami 85; Shubham Singh 4-47) and 84 (Saurabh Shekhar 5-16) by an innings and 301 runs.
  • Vidarbha 295 (Yash Rathod 115; K Raju 5-62) and 191 (Yash Rathod 56; K Saiteja 4-28) lost to Andhra 228 (Abhishek Reddy 73) and 259-2 (Shaik Rasheed 132*) by eight wickets.
  • Games completed before day four: Nagaland 206 and 141 lost to Baroda 353 by an innings and six runs.

Elite Group B

After Jalaj Saxena and Hitesh Walunj shared nine wickets in the third innings, Maharashtra easily chased 108 to beat Goa by eight wickets. Defending 362, Madhya Pradesh shot out Karnataka for only 144.

  • Goa 209 (Snehal Kauthankar 73; Jalaj Saxena 6-79) and 248 (Abhinav Tejrana 109; Jalaj Saxena 5-81, Hitesh Walunj 4-23) lost to Maharashtra 350 (Saurabh Nawale 105; Lalit Yadav 4-98) and 109-2 (Arshin Kulkarni 52*) by eight wickets.
  • Madhya Pradesh 323 (Venkatesh Iyer 87; Vidyadhar Patil 3-56) and 229-8d (Himanshu Mantri 96; Vidyadhar Patil 4-54) beat Karnataka 191 (KV Avneesh 92; Saransh Jain 4-42) and 144 (KV Avneesh 57; Sagar Solanki 3-20) by 217 runs.
  • Games completed before day four: Saurashtra 172 and 286 beat Punjab 139 and 125 by 194 runs. Kerala 139 and 185 beat Chandigarh 416 by an innings and 92 runs.

Elite Group C

With an unbeaten hundred, Bhupen Lalwani guided Uttarakhand to a nine-wicket win against Tripura. Mohammed Shami claimed five wickets to help Bengal rout Vidarbha by an innings and qualify for the quarterfinals. Haryana comfortably chased 175 to beat Assam by nine wickets, while Railways lost only two wickets in pursuit of 99 against Gujarat.

  • Tripura 266 (Sridam Paul 75; Mayank Mishra 4-59) and 258 (Sentu Sarkar 57*; Mayank Mishra 4-80) lost to Uttarakhand 301 (J Suchith 86; Manisankar Murasingh 6-48) and 224-1 (Bhupen Lalwani 100*) by nine wickets.
  • Bengal 519 (Sudip Chatterjee 209; Vineet Dhankhar 3-50) beat Services 186 (Nakul Sharma 85*; Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal 4-51) and 287 (Rajat Paliwal 83; Mohammed Shami 5-51) by an innings and 46 runs.
  • Assam 247 (Rituraj Biswas 53*; Anshul Kamboj 4-55) and 158 (Aman Kumar 5-27) lost to Haryana 236 (Yuvraj Singh 84; Mukhtar Hussain 4-72) and 175-1 (Ankit Kumar 74*) by nine wickets.
  • Gujarat 175 (Jaymeet Patel 57; Bhargav Merai 3-25) and 347 (Jaymeet Patel 101; Karn Sharma 5-87) lost to Railways 424 (Zubair Ali 104; Siddharth Desai 5-93) and 99-2 by eight wickets.

Elite Group D

Jammu & Kashmir had to settle for one point against Puducherry after bad weather prevented two consecutive days of cricket: they still have to wait for the last round to qualify. After Sarfaraz Khan’s 227, Mumbai stormed into the quarter-finals with a nine-wicket win against Hyderabad, ruining Mohammed Siraj’s captaincy debut. Aayush Pandey’s second hundred of the match helped Delhi, 289 runs behind on first innings, bat for long enough to salvage a draw against Chhattisgarh. Himachal Pradesh’s delayed declaration allowed Rajasthan to save the match even as Akash Vasisht claimed 4-24.

  • Puducherry 233 (Ajay Rohera 94; Sunil Kumar 3-26) drew with Jammu & Kashmir 150-6.
  • Mumbai 560 (Siddhesh Lad 104, Sarfaraz Khan 227; Rakshan Readdi 4-107) and 12-1 beat Hyderabad 267 (Rahul Singh 96; Himanshu Singh 3-39) and 302 (Chama Milind 85; Musheer Khan 5-79) by nine wickets.
  • Delhi 216 (Ayush Doseja 104*; Dev Aditya Singh 3-33) and 422 (Ayush Doseja 129) drew with Chhattisgarh 505 (Aayush Pandey 183, Anuj Tiwary 108; Sumit Mathur 3-94) and 57-3 (Money Grewal 3-27). Chhattisgarh took first-innings lead.
  • Himachal Pradesh 406 (Pukhraj Mann 118; Manav Suthar 3-76) and 243-8d (Ankush Bains 93; Manav Suthar 4-79) drew with Rajasthan 342 (Manav Suthar 120; Aryaman Singh 5-101, Mukul Negi 4-108) and 100-5 (Akash Vasisht 4-24). Himachal Pradesh took first-innings lead.

Plate Group (final)

Having secured a 258-run first-innings lead against Manipur, Bihar had finished the third day on 84-2. On the fourth, Piyush Singh compiled a double hundred to virtually secure a promotion for Bihar to the Elite League: they lead by 763 runs with a day in hand.

  • Bihar 522 (Sakibul Gani 108; Bipin Saurabh 143; Rex Rajkumar 4-117) and 505-5 (Piyush Singh 216*; Pheiroijam Jotin 3-85) lead Manipur 264 (Ronald Longjam 79; Suraj Kashyap 3-34) by 763 runs.
