Australia’s players have made notable gains in the latest ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings following their 82-run win in Adelaide, which handed them an unassailable 3-0 lead in the Ashes series against England.

ICC Test rankings: Travis Head moves up to joint third

Travis Head made the most significant move among batters after scoring 170 off 219 balls in the second innings. The knock has lifted him four places to joint third in the Test batting rankings with a rating of 815, level with teammate Steve Smith and ahead of England’s Harry Brook.

Head tops the run-scoring charts in the ongoing Ashes, and is the only batter with over 300 runs. In six innings, he has 379 runs at an average of 63.16, having also scored a hundred at Perth. Head has entered the top five for the first time in nearly a year - he was ranked fifth in January after a sensational series against India, where he made 448 runs in five Tests with a high score of 152.

Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey has also moved into the top ten after his first-innings century in Adelaide. Carey climbed six places to ninth, registering a career-best rating of 737. Carey also scored 63 in Brisbane, and also scored 72 in the second innings at Adelaide.

New Zealand batters also registered gains after completing a 2-0 Test series win over the West Indies in Mount Maunganui. Rachin Ravindra’s unbeaten scores of 72 and 46 resulted in a five-place rise to 13th in the batting rankings. Devon Conway moved to a career-high rating of 681 after scores of 227 and 100, placing him joint 17th.

For the West Indies, Kavem Hodge’s unbeaten 123 in the series finale earned him an 11-place jump to 66th, marking both his highest ranking and rating in Test cricket.

Pat Cummins rises to second spot in the bowling rankings

In the bowling rankings, Australia captain Pat Cummins has risen four spots to second following his performance in the Test. Cummins now has a rating of 849, placing him 30 points behind India’s Jasprit Bumrah at the top of the list. The skipper, who made a return from injury in the third Test, picked up six wickets in the Test, his only contribution in the series after he has been ruled out of the next two games.

Mitchell Starc remains third, having taken four at Adelaide, which took his series tally to 23 in three games. Starc has also moved up to joint-third in the Test all-rounders’ rankings after contributing two half-centuries in the last two Tests, drawing level with Ben Stokes on 311 rating points.
