Out-of-favour England player Sam Curran achieved a rare all-round double in The Hundred 2025 match between Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave on Monday (August 18).
Bowling first at Southampton, the Invincibles dismissed the Brave for 133 in 98 balls. The Brave could have scored far fewer runs after collapsing to 44-6 and later 81-7. Hilton Cartwright (42 off 30 from No.7) and Jordan Thompson (24 off 13 from No.8) restored some respectability to the total.
Rashid Khan wrecked the top and middle order with 3-20, while Sam Curran claimed three of the last four wickets to finish with 3-21 off 18 balls. Curran also contributed to the run-out of Brave’s last batter, Tymal Mills (4).
During the run chase, Craig Overton struck early blows, dismissing openers Will Jacks (1) and Tawanda Muyeye (9) cheaply. However, Jordan Cox – fresh off an unbeaten 86 off 29 balls against Welsh Fire – combined with Curran in a 101-run partnership to steer the chase. Cox fell for 37 off 56, but Curran remained unbeaten on 50 off 32 (4 sixes, 2 fours), guiding the Invincibles to victory with seven wickets and 11 balls to spare.
Curran makes second appearance in exclusive Hundred club
Curran’s performance on Monday marked only the third instance of a player achieving the double of at least three wickets and 50-plus runs in a men’s Hundred match. Curran had previously accomplished this feat with his stunning 5-16 and 51 not out against the London Spirit in 2024.
The first player to do so was Liam Livingstone (Birmingham Phoenix, 2021), who picked up 3-25 and scored 92 not out against Northern Superchargers. The Invincibles have made a perfect start to their title defence with four wins from five matches, and currently top the points table.
Curran's stellar Hundred form ignored as England snub continues
This season in The Hundred, Curran has taken 10 wickets at an average of 10.30 and an economy of 6.71—the joint-highest tally so far. His latest all-round heroics came just three days after being omitted from England’s white-ball squads for the South Africa and Ireland series.
Curran last represented England in October-November last year, playing three ODIs and five T20Is against West Indies. He failed to take a wicket in those matches, which could well have contributed to his exclusion.
