Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had contrasting days out on the field during the second round of Vijay Hazare Trophy matches on Friday (December 26).
The two senior stalwarts had scored hundreds in the opening round of the domestic 50-over competition on Wednesday. While Rohit, playing for Mumbai, made 155 in 94 balls, Delhi’s Kohli scored 131 in 202.
According to reports, the duo were not asked to play in the tournament, but their presence was a strong message about their plans ahead for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
How did Rohit and Kohli fare in the latest round of VHT matches?
Mumbai were sent in to bat first by Uttarakhand at Jaipur on Friday morning. Rohit, opening the innings alongside Angkrish Raghuvanshi, failed to get a run on the board and was dismissed for a golden duck by Devendra Bora. It was the right-arm pacer’s fifth List A wicket after making his debut in the format last season. This was also Rohit’s fourth duck for Mumbai in the format and his third golden duck for the team. It is also his first golden duck in List A cricket since 2012 - he was dismissed off his first ball against Sri Lanka back in July 2012.
At Bengaluru, Kohli pitched in with a contrasting performance against Gujarat: Walking out after just seven deliveries following the dismissal of opener Priyansh Arya, he scored a quickfire 77 in 61 deliveries with the help of 13 fours and a six. By the 25th over of the innings, no other Delhi batter had scored more than 12, showcasing his authority further. Kohli has crossed fifty in each of his last six List A games, making 584 runs, including three hundreds. For Delhi, he averages 65.76 in 18 innings.
